Description:

Canonical is seeking a Software Engineer specializing in Python to work on building a new generation of Ubuntu-based container images for open-source application deployment.
The role involves developing tools and technology for creating and maintaining these container images, ensuring high quality and a seamless Ubuntu user experience.
Responsibilities include working with multiple teams, implementing and maintaining CI/CD automation, and contributing to fast-moving products like Rocks and Chisel.
The position offers the opportunity to gain experience with various container technologies, participate in exploratory tasks, and provide critical feedback for decision-making processes.
The role also involves mentoring junior team members, collaborating in a globally distributed environment, and occasional global travel for internal and external events.

Requirements:

Knowledge and passion for software development.
Experience in collaborative development and working with CI/CD systems like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Concourse CI.
Proven track record of delivering high-quality software in a timely manner.
Familiarity with container images, containerized operations, and at least one container management/orchestration tool such as Docker or Kubernetes.
Significant experience with Python, Linux systems administration, and package management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts effectively.
Ability to bring clarity to technical and engineering discussions.
Belief in knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field.
Skills ranging from a Graduate to a mid-senior Software Engineer.
