Remote Software Engineer (Python)

Description:

• Beam is seeking a Software Engineer (Python) who is passionate about primarily building backend APIs.
• The role involves working across a broad product portfolio, engaging with diverse technologies, and shipping code frequently.

• The engineer will focus on building robust, scalable systems using Python and collaborate closely with partners across Product, Design, Underwriting, and Engineering.
• Responsibilities include regularly shipping high-quality, tested code, acting as a technical advisor, mentoring fellow engineers, proposing architectural solutions, converting Excel raters into productionized Python code, integrating with third-party systems, and evaluating platform performance and scalability.
• The engineer will also own portions of the agile processes.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have 3+ years of extensive experience with Python and data analysis libraries such as pandas and polars.
• Exposure to FastAPI, PyTest, pdm, and/or uv is required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is necessary.
• Experience with managing CI/CD Pipelines (Buildkite, CircleCI, etc.) is essential.
• Candidates should have expertise in building secure, scalable, well-tested REST APIs and relational DB schema design experience.
• An excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and design patterns, is required.
• Exposure to React, React Testing Library, NextJS, and TypeScript would be a plus.
• Exposure to Ruby on Rails would also be a plus.
