Description:
Canonical is seeking a talented software engineer with a passion for developer experience and build tooling to impact the day-to-day workflow of snap and charm publishers.
The role involves designing and maintaining specialist Python tools to support the developer build and publication process.
Responsibilities include working on tools for building snaps, charms, and OCI images to simplify software shipping to a wide audience.
Snapcraft enables automatic app updates on Linux systems, benefiting developers like Spotify, Slack, and Microsoft.
Charmcraft facilitates collaboration among charmed operator developers for packaging software like databases, event queues, and observability tools.
The position requires expertise in Python, understanding of GNU/Linux distributions, build systems, cross-compilation, and container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and LXD.
The candidate will extend the snap build ecosystem, collaborate with external projects, and enhance community service.
Requirements:
Expertise in Python.
Strong understanding of modern GNU/Linux distributions.
Good knowledge of build systems, toolchains, and cross-compilation.
Experience with container technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and LXD.
Familiarity with languages, toolchains, frameworks, integrations, and CI systems.
Ability to work with external open source and commercial projects to meet community needs.
