Remote Software Engineer (Scala), Supply and Demand Team

Description:

• The Supply and Demand team at Wolt is looking to add a Backend Engineer to enhance operational efficiency through automation in managing supply and demand.
• The team's mission is to create efficient Wolt cities for customers, merchants, and couriers, while ensuring smooth operations.
• Responsibilities include building tools and features to balance supply (number of Courier Partners online) and demand (home delivery orders) by providing forecasts to Courier Partners and Wolt operations.
• The role involves working on topics such as courier engagement and activation bonuses, encouraging innovative approaches and experimentation.
• Collaboration with various teams, including applied science, analytics, product management, and operations, is a key aspect of the job.
• The position requires designing systems to optimize courier activation and bonuses, solving complex logistics and machine learning problems.
• The team consists of frontend developers, backend engineers, applied scientists, and leads, primarily using Python, Scala, and TypeScript (React).
• The role can be based in Helsinki, Stockholm, Berlin, or remotely in Finland, Sweden, Germany, or Estonia.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have solid experience in designing, building, and integrating quality software (microservices) in Scala on a large scale within a complex domain.
• A strong focus on an event-driven approach where decisions are made online is essential.
• Knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, observability tools (like DataDog), and both SQL and noSQL databases (including postgresql, dynamodb, mongo, redis) is required.
• The ideal candidate should be dedicated, pragmatic, and possess a positive attitude, with a willingness to step outside their comfort zone and a curiosity for continuous learning.
• Comfort in working with real-world data and its nuances is necessary.
