Description:
The Supply and Demand team at Wolt is looking to add a Backend Engineer to enhance operational efficiency through automation in managing supply and demand.
The team's mission is to create efficient Wolt cities for customers, merchants, and couriers, while ensuring smooth operations.
Responsibilities include building tools and features to balance supply (number of Courier Partners online) and demand (home delivery orders) by providing forecasts to Courier Partners and Wolt operations.
The role involves working on topics such as courier engagement and activation bonuses, encouraging innovative approaches and experimentation.
Collaboration with various teams, including applied science, analytics, product management, and operations, is a key aspect of the job.
The position requires designing systems to optimize courier activation and bonuses, solving complex logistics and machine learning problems.
The team consists of frontend developers, backend engineers, applied scientists, and leads, primarily using Python, Scala, and TypeScript (React).
The role can be based in Helsinki, Stockholm, Berlin, or remotely in Finland, Sweden, Germany, or Estonia.
Requirements:
Candidates must have solid experience in designing, building, and integrating quality software (microservices) in Scala on a large scale within a complex domain.
A strong focus on an event-driven approach where decisions are made online is essential.
Knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, observability tools (like DataDog), and both SQL and noSQL databases (including postgresql, dynamodb, mongo, redis) is required.
The ideal candidate should be dedicated, pragmatic, and possess a positive attitude, with a willingness to step outside their comfort zone and a curiosity for continuous learning.
Comfort in working with real-world data and its nuances is necessary.
