Description:

  • The position is for a Software Engineer in the Training Infrastructure team at Google DeepMind, located in Mountain View, California.
  • The team consists of approximately 10 members and focuses on high-priority research efforts, enhancing tools and technology for large-scale training systems.
  • Responsibilities include collaborating with engineers to address critical research challenges, scoping technical roadmaps, designing and implementing new infrastructure, and analyzing experiments.
  • The role requires improving performance and efficiency of mid and post-training workloads and mentoring junior team members.
  • The team operates collaboratively across the US, Canada, France, and the UK, aligning with Gemini priorities and engaging with various collaborators.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • Candidates must have at least 8 years of experience in software development, particularly with data structures and algorithms.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in building, testing, and supporting software in a research environment is preferred.
  • Proven experience in building large-scale infrastructure for research in Deep Learning is essential, with a strong understanding of accelerators (e.g., Jax & XLA stack), performance profiling, optimization, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with Reinforcement Learning is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to work in a distributed team across time zones.
  • Candidates should be capable of producing high-quality code and prototypes quickly, adapting to new projects and collaborating with diverse teams.

Benefits:

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $189,000 - $350,000, plus bonuses, equity, and benefits.
