Description:

Wherobots is seeking passionate, skilled, and motivated interns to join their team in building a distributed geospatial cloud database.
As an intern in the WherobotsDB & geospatial analytics team, you will help build new features and assist in designing and implementing APIs to enhance geospatial query capabilities.
You will contribute to improving the performance, observability, and reliability of WherobotsDB's distributed query engine.
The company is 100% cloud-native and utilizes modern tools and technologies, with WherobotsDB built in Java, Scala, and Rust, along with optimized Python wrappers and SDKs.
Services are deployed on cloud-based Kubernetes environments.
Interns will implement new vector and raster functions and algorithms to extend geospatial capabilities and improve related documentation.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams is expected to define requirements, identify technical solutions, and deliver high-quality software.
Interns will also make open-source contributions to various Apache projects, including Sedona, Spark, Arrow, Parquet, and Iceberg.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a passion for open-source projects and communities, with a strong eagerness to learn and contribute.
A strong technical background is required, including coursework or project experience related to scalable, distributed systems or spatial query algorithms.
Proficiency in Java and/or Scala is required.
Candidates should demonstrate an interest in building high-quality, maintainable, and observable software.
A solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and the fundamentals of distributed systems is necessary.
Strong communication and collaboration abilities are essential, with an interest in working effectively in a hybrid or distributed team environment.
Hands-on experience programming in Python and experience with large-scale geospatial data processing and applications are considered nice to have.

Wherobots offers competitive internship compensation, with a monthly salary range of US$7,500 to US$10,000, depending on experience, availability, and duration of the internship.
Interns do not qualify for other company benefits.
The company provides flexibility and choice in the working arrangement for most roles, including remote and/or in-office options.
