Description:
The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for optimizing SQL queries for improved performance on both on-premise and AWS RDS-hosted SQL Servers.
They will monitor, maintain, and tune SQL Server databases to ensure high performance and availability in both on-premise and AWS RDS environments.
The role involves configuring, managing, and optimizing SQL Server databases hosted on AWS RDS, including backups, security, scaling, and monitoring.
Designing, implementing, and maintaining indexing strategies to ensure efficient query execution.
Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks using monitoring tools like SQL Profiler, Performance Monitor, AWS CloudWatch, etc.
Collaborating with development teams to design efficient, scalable database structures meeting business needs.
Implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies for both on-premise SQL Server databases and AWS RDS instances.
Ensuring database security with a focus on AWS IAM roles, encryption, and security best practices for cloud environments.
Maintaining thorough documentation of database configurations, optimizations, and AWS RDS configurations.
Requirements:
5+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA, with a focus on performance tuning and query optimization, including 2+ years managing SQL Server databases on AWS RDS.
Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (versions 2016 and above) and strong proficiency in T-SQL programming, query tuning, and stored procedures.
Experience with database indexing, partitioning, normalization, SQL Profiler, Extended Events, Query Store, and AWS RDS for SQL Server.
Knowledge of AWS services like CloudWatch, IAM, S3, EC2, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, clustering strategies, database design, data modeling, and cloud-based scaling strategies.
Familiarity with AWS management tools, SSMS, Visual Studio, and third-party monitoring tools.
Proven ability to troubleshoot performance issues on both on-premise and AWS RDS databases.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with development and IT teams.
AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect) and Microsoft SQL Server certifications (e.g., MCSE: Data Management and Analytics) are a plus.
