Remote Sr. Backend Engineer

Description:

• Real is a fast-growing national real estate brokerage powered by technology, operating in all U.S. states, Canada, and the District of Columbia.
• The company was founded in 2014 and is a trailblazer in the Residential Real Estate industry, aiming to revolutionize the home-buying and selling process.
• As a Sr. Backend Engineer, you will report to the Engineering Manager and be a key member of Real’s R&D team.
• Your responsibilities will include leading the technical vision for backend development, implementing features, fixing bugs, and improving Java Spring Microservices.
• You will collaborate with other engineers through pairing sessions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing in weekly Dev Chats.
• Mentoring and leading junior engineers in software engineering methodology, design, and best practices will be part of your role.
• You will work with the product team and feature owners to understand requirements and ensure their execution and deployment.
• The position requires working Eastern (EST) time zone hours, regardless of your location.

Requirements:

• You must have extensive experience with Java 11+, Spring Boot, JPA (Hibernate), and SQL relational databases.
• You should be comfortable writing unit and integration tests while maintaining strong code coverage.
• Hands-on experience in building applications using microservices architecture is required.
• In-depth knowledge of relational databases, including indices, connection pools, transactions (ACID), and schema design implications on performance is necessary.
• Experience with NoSQL databases, understanding their advantages and disadvantages, is essential.
• You should be opinionated about the direction of backend software development and proactive in ensuring the long-term health of the project.
• A keen eye for refactoring opportunities using standard design principles and patterns is important.
• You must have a collaborative attitude and be excited to learn and teach new knowledge to other engineers.
• Comfort in working with a remote team across different time zones and locations is required.
• You should thrive in an agile, fast-paced startup environment and be able to work closely with product teams on larger projects with limited information.
• A BA/BS degree and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
• Experience in Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Relational Databases is a must.
• A background in real estate with transferable skills would be an asset.
• Demonstrated project coordination/management skills are necessary.
