The Sr. Backend Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and be a key member of Real’s R&D team.
Responsibilities include leading the technical vision for backend development, implementing features, fixing bugs, and improving Java Spring Microservices.
The role requires collaboration with other engineers, mentoring junior engineers, and working with product teams to understand and execute requirements.
The position is fully remote, but US residency is required, and candidates must work Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours.

Requirements:

Candidates must have extensive experience with Java 17+, Spring Boot, JPA (Hibernate), and SQL relational databases.
Comfort in writing unit and integration tests while maintaining strong code coverage is essential.
Hands-on experience with microservices architecture is required.
In-depth knowledge of relational databases, including indices, connection pools, and transactions (ACID), is necessary.
Experience with NoSQL databases and understanding their advantages and disadvantages is important.
Candidates should have a proactive approach to backend software development and be able to provide recommendations for project health.
A collaborative attitude and willingness to mentor and learn from other engineers is expected.
Experience in an agile, fast-paced startup environment is preferred.
A BA/BS degree and 8+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Experience in Spring/Spring Boot, Hibernate, and Relational Databases is a must, and a background in real estate is a plus.
