Description:
The Senior Data Engineer role at Varo involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines to process data into and out of Varo’s Data Lake.
The position requires working with AWS big data technologies such as EMR, Glue, S3, EKS, Lambda, Athena, and RDS.
The Senior Data Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining the data strategy for Varo to support the company's responsibilities as a regulated national bank.
Providing technical leadership in data systems development, including data ingestion, curation, storage, high-throughput processing, and analytics.
Collaborating with business partners on requirements, clarification, and results.
Enforcing data security and access control policies, developing controls for a resilient data ingestion process, and supporting application data integration design efforts.
Conducting code reviews in accordance with team processes and standards.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, or a related field, or relevant work experience is required.
6-8 years of experience in data modeling, data pipelines, data lake, and data warehouse.
6+ years of programming experience in Python (consideration given to Java, Kotlin, C, C++).
6+ years of experience working within the AWS Big Data/Hadoop Ecosystem (EMR, Glue, Athena).
Experience with other AWS components like Cloudwatch, EKS, KMS, Lambdas, S3 is a strong plus.
Experience with downstream consumption patterns (reports, dashboards) is advantageous.
Additional experience in Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Presto, REST/SOAP API, Spark2, Airflow is a plus.
Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $140,000 - $180,000 per year, with final offer amounts determined by multiple factors, candidate experience, and expertise.
