Description:
The Sr. DevOps Engineer Lead is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and ongoing management of cloud-based and managed service environments for Smile Digital Health.
This role focuses on scalability, security, automation, and operational excellence while ensuring the seamless deployment and integration of the Smile Digital Health platform into diverse customer environments.
The Lead will drive DevOps best practices, oversee complex cloud projects, and provide technical guidance to the engineering team.
Responsibilities include building, developing, and deploying scripts and infrastructure as code for Smile Digital Health and associated services and teams.
The role involves implementing infrastructure monitoring, logging, and alerting across solutions to improve visibility into system health and performance.
The Lead will develop and maintain software deployment strategies essential for successful software deployment by identifying and implementing data storage methods to improve team performance.
Cost and resource optimization across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure) for customer-hosted and managed service deployments is a key responsibility.
The position requires maintaining build and deployment pipelines to ensure quality delivery of software and infrastructure.
The Lead will review and consult on assessments, building, testing, and deployment of business continuity and IT disaster recovery plans related to the DevOps pipeline.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure timelines and deliverables are met is essential.
The role includes investigating and resolving customer integration issues during implementation.
Supporting the development of DevOps team members and coaching new hires is part of the responsibilities.
The Lead will foster a DevOps culture, champion an ‘Everything as Code’ approach, and promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
Documentation of best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement is required.
Establishing technical relationships with development teams and designing, implementing, and maintaining secure and scalable infrastructure templates and deployment pipelines are key tasks.
Ongoing maintenance and support of internal tools infrastructure to improve system health and reliability is expected.
The Lead will maintain thorough documentation on the development pipeline and assist developers and engineers with deployments and builds as needed.
Enforcing DevSecOps principles and integrating security into all stages of the DevOps lifecycle is crucial.
Leading incident response efforts for relevant solutions and assisting in developing Root Cause Analysis and post-mortems as required is part of the role.
Collaboration with managed services engineers and program managers to ensure SLAs are met for uptime, performance, and security is necessary.
The Lead is accountable for ensuring accurate reporting of working hours in Netsuite and tracking billable hours as a critical aspect of project management and delivery to customers.
Compliance with privacy, security, and confidentiality policies is mandatory.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in a DevOps Engineer project lead role or a similar software engineering role, with at least 3+ years in a lead role overseeing multi-cloud environments.
A demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and priorities is essential.
Expertise in cloud-native tools and services (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) with a strong focus on SaaS and Managed Services based implementations and management is required.
Proficiency in Python is essential, along with good knowledge of Java Applications.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools, including Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and Gitlab CI, is necessary. Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD and Flux is beneficial.
Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS Cloudformation, and Azure ARM Templates is required. Using Infrastructure provisioning SDKs is a bonus.
Strong knowledge in containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Kops, and Helm is necessary.
Understanding and experience with security best practices in the cloud and for platform security, including identity management, secrets management, and compliance frameworks, is required.
Experience with implementing product and service QA testing in deployment stages is necessary.
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK stack, and Opentelemetry) for proactive system management is required.
Nice to have: Experience with Kafka for real-time data streaming and exposure to FHIR standards in healthcare data management.
Candidates must be able to prioritize and track multiple projects in parallel.
A highly responsive and customer-first mindset is essential.
Knowledge of cloud service providers and best practices around implementation and configuration is nice to have but not required.
Knowledge of operating and maintaining production systems in Linux and public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI is an asset but not required.
An understanding of Kubernetes or other Docker orchestration tools is nice to have but not required.
