Description:

Zapier is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Canvas team, which focuses on visually designing, building, and automating business workflows.
The role involves enhancing AI Assist, a feature that leverages AI to recommend optimizations and assist users in building systems via APIs.
The Canvas platform allows users to create, share, and collaborate on workflows using intuitive diagramming tools and AI-assisted automation.
The position is remote and offers the opportunity to work on various projects across the organization.
The engineer will be responsible for building and optimizing backend systems, collaborating with product and design teams, and delivering scalable APIs.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, focusing on backend systems, APIs, and scalable architectures.
Proficiency in TypeScript (preferred), Python, or a similar language for backend development is required.
Experience in designing, building, and maintaining APIs for complex systems is essential, including API versioning and lifecycle management.
A strong understanding of graph-based and relational database design is necessary.
Candidates should demonstrate the ability to make architectural decisions for scalable systems and have experience integrating AI/ML systems into production workflows.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including AI/ML specialists and product managers, is required.
Expertise in designing modular architectures for multi-team ecosystems and optimizing backend performance is expected.
Experience with distributed ownership of data models is also necessary.
