Description:
Calm is on a mission to support everyone on their mental health journey with its flagship app for sleep, meditation, and relaxation.
The Staff Backend Engineer will be a critical member of the Calm Engineering Team, responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems for mobile and web applications.
The role involves gathering technical requirements, designing technical specifications, and owning the building and releasing of systems into production.
Responsibilities include working with customers and product managers, writing high-quality code, ensuring high test coverage, implementing monitoring for system failures, and collaborating with other teams.
The position is remote but candidates must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis.
Requirements:
Candidates must have experience with Javascript/Typescript, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and expertise in AWS, GCP, GKE, or Azure.
Experience with REST API-based microservices design and a strong focus on security is required.
Proven experience in a fast-paced, agile environment and the ability to learn new technologies is essential.
Candidates should have proficiency in writing unit and integration tests in a CI/CD environment and excellent communication skills.
A minimum of 12 years of related experience and a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
Benefits:
The base pay for this position ranges from $150,000 to $260,000, depending on geographic location, skills, experience, and qualifications.
