Description:

  • The Staff Backend Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining foundational services and capabilities that support engineering teams and drive product success.
  • This position requires leveraging deep technical expertise and leadership skills to influence platform architecture and guide engineering practices.
  • Responsibilities include ensuring the resiliency, scalability, and performance of the platform.
  • The engineer will work with technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Go, Node, TypeScript, Ruby on Rails, React, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
  • Daily tasks involve architectural design, providing technical leadership, cross-functional collaboration, planning and execution of initiatives, and developing a vision and strategy for services.

Requirements:

  • A deep understanding of distributed systems and cloud computing is essential.
  • Experience in performing major architectural refactors is required, with a bonus for experience in refactoring monolithic applications into microservices.
  • Candidates must have experience building, operating, and maintaining high-traffic, high-availability platforms and systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex systems to identify root causes and implement effective solutions are necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and propose new solutions that align with organizational goals is required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively within remote and distributed teams are necessary.
  • Leadership capabilities with experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams are required.
  • Candidates must be adaptable to new technologies, changing requirements, and evolving organizational needs.
  • Availability for participation in an on-call rotation is required to respond to business-critical alerts outside of regular working hours.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States, as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship.
