Description:
GameChanger is a remote-first tech company focused on enhancing youth sports experiences through technology.
The Staff Backend Engineer will lead the expansion of video capabilities within a new Video Engineering team.
Responsibilities include managing the video pipeline, evolving live streaming and post-game video capabilities, and simplifying the developer experience for product teams.
The role involves collaborating with the Engineering Manager and Product Manager on technical strategy, mentoring developers, and influencing the video stack.
The engineer will work on projects related to mobile broadcast, playback frameworks, back-end infrastructure, and AI/Computer Vision workflows.
The position requires participation in an on-call rotation to support production systems.
Requirements:
A background in video and audio streaming, particularly in live-streaming user-generated content.
At least 5 years of experience building scalable video pipelines in cloud environments, preferably AWS.
Knowledge of audio and video packaging principles, codecs, and tools such as MPEG Video, HLS, DASH, and FFMPEG.
Hands-on experience in designing and building live and video on-demand streaming workflows.
Proficiency in at least one programming language used in the video space (e.g., C#, Golang, C++, Rust, Python) and familiarity with higher-level languages like Node/TypeScript and mobile languages.
Experience in designing and connecting internal APIs/SDKs for rapid feature development.
Familiarity with mobile video broadcasting challenges and experience with video players.
Front-end development experience in web, iOS (Swift), or Android (Kotlin) is required.
Strong technical documentation skills and experience in technical leadership roles.
