Description:

  • Varo is an entirely new kind of bank that is all digital, mission-driven, FDIC insured, and designed for the way customers live their lives.
  • The Database Engineering Team plays a key role in building products that improve the financial well-being of customers.
  • The Staff Cloud Database Engineer will be responsible for cloud database services, driving the vision and ownership for all enterprise database systems.
  • This role involves building and improving infrastructure and processes, leading and mentoring teams, and coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Responsibilities include understanding database requirements, planning capacity, driving observability, executing maintenance, and building enterprise-level roadmaps for database initiatives.
  • The engineer will provide architecture consultation for optimal database design and performance, resolve database issues, and improve operational support.
  • Regular database training will be provided, including discussions with development teams on best practices and risk mitigation.
  • The engineer will monitor and be on-call for all aspects of databases, including hardware and internal components.
  • Identifying and resolving database contention and performance issues is also a key responsibility.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 8+ years of Postgres Database Administration experience on RDS.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of AWS Database Administration experience (Dynamo, RedShift, etc.) is required.
  • Candidates should have 8+ years of experience with systems administration in a Linux environment.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience on AWS, particularly with IAM, EC2, S3, RDS, and DMS, is necessary.
  • A solid understanding of distributed computing environments, including distributed SQL systems, is essential.
  • Expertise in database administration activities such as installation, configuration, backup & recovery, query optimizations, creating roles, managing user permissions, and resolving deadlocks is required.
  • Candidates must have expertise with query analyzers and query tuning.
  • Experience in implementing different types of replication models like Snapshot, Merge, and Transactional is necessary.
  • Expertise in handling database maintenance with minimal to zero downtime is required.

Benefits:

  • The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $220,000 per year, based on function, level, and geographic location.
  • Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the identified range.
