Description:

  • Swapcard is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to design and build robust, efficient data pipelines for processing large volumes of data from internal databases and SaaS applications.
  • The role involves designing and implementing scalable and maintainable data pipelines using tools such as Fivetran, Airbyte, or Python.
  • Responsibilities include developing and optimizing transformation models using tools like DBT, Redshift, and Dagster to ensure high-quality and timely data for analysis.
  • The Staff Data Engineer will oversee the management and optimization of the Redshift data warehouse, ensuring smooth operations and data integrity.
  • Continuous monitoring of data pipelines and infrastructure is required to ensure uptime, quality, and timely availability of data for decision-making.
  • The position requires collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders, including the ML team, Infra team, and Growth team, to address data engineering needs and deliver impactful solutions.
  • The role also involves defining, enforcing, and improving data engineering standards, best practices, and processes across the organization.
  • Detailed documentation for pipelines, data models, and architecture must be created and maintained to ensure transparency and knowledge sharing within the team and organization.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 10+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, building scalable and reliable data systems in production environments.
  • A minimum of 4+ years of experience with DBT is required, specifically in implementing, optimizing, and managing transformation pipelines for cloud data warehouses.
  • Applicants should have 5+ years of experience with Redshift, including managing, optimizing, and troubleshooting Redshift in AWS.
  • Advanced SQL skills and a deep understanding of data warehousing principles, including performance tuning, indexing, partitioning, and query optimization, are essential.
  • Proven experience in ETL processes, from extracting data from various sources, transforming it, and loading it into cloud-based data warehouses, is necessary.
  • Experience with data orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect is required to design and manage data workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with Python for building custom data processing scripts and automation is needed.
  • Candidates must establish and enforce data governance standards across the organization, ensuring data quality, consistency, security, and compliance.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is required.
  • Bonus points for experience with other AWS services such as S3 and Lambda, expertise in Dagster, experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, and familiarity with Infra tools such as Docker, Terraform, and Helm.
