Description:

  • Kin is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead a team focused on insurance data related to claims, policies, products, rates, pricing, renewals, and risk.
  • The role involves designing and developing data pipelines and modeling raw data for downstream ingestion.
  • The Staff Data Engineer will ensure the quality, integrity, and security of data assets while mentoring and guiding other data engineers.
  • Collaboration with engineers, product managers, analysts, and stakeholders is essential.
  • The position includes leading a cross-functional project team to design solutions for effective reporting and implementing data validation standards.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in modern big data environments, particularly in lakehouse environments, and possess advanced knowledge of SQL and Python.
  • Insurance domain knowledge is crucial for designing models and writing schemas based on ambiguous specifications.
  • The candidate should prioritize data quality and integrity, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have extensive experience in modern big data environments, particularly in lakehouse environments, and be proficient in building end-to-end data solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with SQL and Python are expected, along with database design skills.
  • Candidates should possess insurance domain knowledge to effectively design models and write schemas.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to connect technical work to business goals are essential.
  • A focus on data quality and integrity, including assessing data sources and gathering techniques, is required.
  • Candidates must value documentation practices, including maintaining a centralized metadata catalog.
  • Knowledge of security and compliance standards in a regulated industry is necessary, including familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, and GLBA.
