Description:

We are looking for a Staff Data Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge data systems that support our mission to restore and protect the planet's forests.
As a leader on the DMRV (Digital measurement, reporting, and verification) team, you will build, scale, and deploy systems for ingesting, storing, and computing data that powers our AI and Remote Sensing insights.
You will be responsible for delivering data insights to our customers to help them identify and originate high-quality nature-based projects.
A typical day includes collaborating with engineering and science teams to understand new dataset ingest pathways, writing code for efficient compute and scalable transformation, designing systems for easy data access, pair coding with other engineers, and roadmapping core improvements to our data, compute, or measurement stack.
We seek engineers who are detail-oriented, methodical, and passionate about building impactful systems quickly.
This role is remote, but it is preferred that you be within 3 hours of Pacific time.

Requirements:

You must have experience leading larger cross-team engineering efforts.
You should have experience with data engineering, including ingest, storage, orchestration, and compute at scale, and the ability to apply these skills to new domains like forest science and remote sensing.
Strong software engineering practices and a background in Python programming, debugging/profiling, version control, and system design are required.
Familiarity with distributed compute technologies and knowledge of distributed systems concepts, such as CPU/GPU interactions, latency/throughput bottlenecks, and pipelining/multiprocessing, is necessary.
You should be comfortable with a fast-paced execution and rapid iteration startup environment and be excited by product impact.
A passion for environmental sustainability and a desire to make a meaningful impact on the planet is essential.

The salary range for this position is $117,180 to $186,000 per year, determined by role, level, and location.
The position is also eligible for equity.
