Description:

  • theScore is a subsidiary of PENN Entertainment that provides digital media and sports betting products to millions of sports fans.
  • The Staff Data Scientist will be part of the Analytics & Data Science team, focusing on developing data-driven solutions to enhance profitability, growth, and user experience for ESPN Bet.
  • This role involves designing and implementing personalization strategies to improve user engagement and satisfaction.
  • The candidate will utilize their expertise in data science and personalization engines to create sophisticated models that deliver tailored content to users.
  • Responsibilities include serving as a technical leader, collaborating with stakeholders to identify business problems, and utilizing advanced personalization techniques.
  • The role requires taking ownership of data science projects, collaborating with Data Engineers and Machine Learning Engineers, and contributing to the evolution of data science infrastructure.
  • The candidate will also drive innovation by staying updated on data science trends and presenting solutions to diverse audiences.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of industry experience in roles such as Data Scientist, ML Engineer, or Tech Lead is required.
  • A university degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field is necessary.
  • The candidate must have a strong track record of designing, prototyping, scaling, and deploying data science products, particularly recommendation engines.
  • Expert coding skills in Python and familiarity with software engineering principles are essential.
  • A deep understanding of the Machine Learning lifecycle, best practices, and algorithms is required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of data engineering practices, including data pipelines and processing technologies like Spark, is necessary.
  • Experience in collaborating with stakeholders from various business domains is important.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a product-oriented mindset and innovative thinking in developing user-centric solutions.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex topics clearly to audiences of varying technical levels is required.
  • Experience with automation and orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, DBT, or Cron jobs is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the sports betting industry is a plus but not mandatory.
