Description:
This position at Canonical is for a Staff Engineer or above in any team, where after initial interviews, suitable teams will be determined for the candidate.
Canonical is a global provider of open-source solutions, with Ubuntu being a popular Linux distribution for cloud, desktop, and IoT.
The engineering teams at Canonical work on various aspects including operating systems, programming languages, applications, devices, infrastructure, and services.
Staff Engineers are expected to excel in software architecture and coding, demonstrate leadership qualities, collaborate across teams, and drive product outcomes.
The role involves contributing high-quality code, providing technical leadership, motivating teams, ensuring exceptional design, and maintaining thorough documentation.
Staff Engineers are responsible for designing and evolving impactful open-source projects, working with various technologies like Golang, Rust, Python, C/C++, and React/Flutter.
The position offers the opportunity to engage with the open-source community, contribute to diverse technologies, and ensure smooth software operations at scale.
Requirements:
Exceptional academic background from high school and university.
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling alternative path.
Demonstrated drive, exceeding expectations, technical leadership, team motivation, and meeting schedules.
Proficiency in at least one of Go, Rust, Python, or C, with subject matter expertise in the engineering domain.
Strong organizational skills, self-starting attitude, and ability to interact professionally with colleagues, partners, and the community.
Experience with Linux, particularly Debian or Ubuntu, and a focus on performance and detail orientation.
Excellent written and spoken English, interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
Passion for open-source software, innovation, cutting-edge technology, and a result-oriented approach.
Willingness to travel twice a year for company events up to two weeks each.
