Calm is on a mission to support everyone on their mental health journey with the #1 app for sleep, meditation, and relaxation.
The Staff Backend Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems for Calm's mobile and web applications.
This role involves working closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and customers to ensure product reliability, performance, and security.
Responsibilities include gathering requirements, defining technical specifications, writing high-quality code, ensuring high test coverage, implementing monitoring for system failures, and collaborating with other teams for smooth development and deployment.
The position is remote but candidates must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York City, or Minneapolis.

Requirements:

Candidates should have experience with REST API-based microservices design and a strong focus on security.
Proven experience in a fast-paced, agile environment as part of a collaborative team is required.
Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies and tackle challenging problems.
Proficiency in writing unit and integration tests in a CI/CD environment is necessary.
Excellent communication skills are essential for conveying technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
A minimum of 12 years of related experience and a BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field are required.
Experience in building apps in highly controlled industries, such as healthcare, is a plus.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $176,000 - $275,000, depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
