Description:

Renew Home is seeking a Staff Engineer, Backend for their Partner VPP team, which is a remote position based in the US.
The mission of Renew Home is to change how the world is powered by helping customers save energy and money at home as part of the largest residential virtual power plant in North America.
The role involves building and maintaining highly-available backend services that facilitate communication and operation of the VPP platform for energy partners.
Responsibilities include developing and supporting software for virtual power plants, executing software projects independently, and leading small engineering teams to achieve objectives.
The engineer will design systems and features, rearchitect existing systems for scalability, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet their needs and address risks.
The position requires working with various technologies including Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, AWS/GCP, and participating in an agile development process.
Mentorship of team members through design and code reviews is also a key aspect of the role, along with fostering a strong engineering culture.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 7-10+ years of industry experience in building backend software services.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or equivalent experience in the software industry is required.
Strong SQL skills and proficiency with SQL databases such as MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, or Redshift are necessary.
A solid software engineering background with proficiency in one or more programming languages including Python, Java, PHP, or Ruby is essential.
Experience in leading the design of complex software systems and strong leadership skills are required.
Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively to resolve ambiguity are crucial.
Bonus qualifications include experience with scalable distributed data processing, AWS Lambda/Cloud functions, cloud automation tools, and knowledge of the electric power industry.

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $170k to $220k based on experience.
