Description:
Overstory is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Vegetation Management Experience team, focusing on developing web tools for utility companies to manage climate change, wildfires, and storms effectively.
The role involves ensuring product performance and scalability to handle 3x YoY growth, accelerating time to value for new product capabilities, and reducing manual work in vegetation analysis.
Staff Engineers at Overstory are technical leaders responsible for leading cross-team initiatives, making technology choices, and solving critical technical challenges to support rapid scaling plans.
The position initially focuses on team-scoped scaling challenges with potential to expand responsibilities as the company grows.
Responsibilities include deep system design understanding, business domain application of technology, innovation, resolving complex technical challenges, leading initiatives, driving technology decisions, defining coding standards, mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions at the organizational level, collaborating with product managers and CTO, and hands-on contribution.
Requirements:
Experience working in a high-growth scaleup environment.
Demonstrated impact on a business through technology application.
Full stack development experience with technologies like React/Typescript, Python/fastAPI, Postgres DB, and data pipelines.
Familiarity with working in a build it, run it environment (GCP, cloud run, grafana, k8s) or similar.
Ability to design and implement scalable and resilient systems.
Strong leadership skills for mentoring and coaching engineers, excellent communication skills, and effective collaboration in a cross-functional team.
Passion for learning and staying updated with evolving technologies and industry trends.
Based in GMT/CET time zone, open to US ET for significant overlap with GMT/CET working hours.
