Description:
The Staff Engineer will be part of the Public Web team responsible for the architecture, infrastructure, and site reliability of Square’s marketing website, www.squareup.com.
Key initiatives include a full site redesign to simplify discovery for customers and a platform re-architecture journey to improve resiliency and developer experience.
Responsibilities include building and supporting Square’s Public Web, improving application architecture, optimizing the seller experience, and establishing best practices.
The role involves writing code for a server-side rendered CMS based website, building a design system for no-code and low-code deployment, and supporting the deprecation of a legacy Ruby on Rails stack.
The Staff Engineer will prioritize tooling and build investments, review technical documents, advocate for architectural tradeoffs, and mentor engineers across the organization.
Requirements:
8+ years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks like Svelte and React.
Proficiency in web markup languages (HTML5, CSS3), backend technologies (NodeJS, ExpressJS, Ruby), and front-end build tools (Webpack, ESbuild, Vite).
Demonstrated ability to deliver large features and work with large teams from start to finish, emphasizing collaboration, communication, and ownership.
Expertise in building web apps, modern front-end and server-side rendering technologies, and frameworks.
Strong communication skills, experience with CI pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and excellence in test coverage.
Comfortable working in a collaborative environment, partnering with cross-disciplinary teams, and being on-call.
