Description:

  • The Staff Engineer will be part of the Public Web team responsible for the architecture, infrastructure, and site reliability of Square’s marketing website, www.squareup.com.
  • Key initiatives include a full site redesign to simplify discovery for customers and a platform re-architecture journey to improve resiliency and performance.
  • Responsibilities include building and supporting Square’s Public Web, optimizing the seller experience, establishing best practices, writing code for a server-side rendered CMS website, and supporting the deprecation of a legacy Ruby on Rails stack.
  • The role involves collaborating with product and design teams, mentoring engineers, advocating for process improvements, and participating in technical document reviews.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern web frameworks like Svelte and React.
  • Extensive knowledge of web markup languages, backend technologies (NodeJS, ExpressJS, Ruby), and front-end build tools.
  • Proven track record of delivering large features and working with large teams from start to finish.
  • Expertise in building web apps, modern front-end and server-side rendering technologies, and applying software development design principles.
  • Proficiency in CI pipelines, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Cloudflare), and test coverage.
  • Effective communicator, comfortable presenting work to large audiences, and experienced in working collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable being on-call and working under pressure.
