Description:
The position is for a Staff Linux System Admin within the Cloud Operations Engineering team at ServiceNow.
The role involves administration and operations of the global cloud infrastructure that supports the company's SaaS product.
Responsibilities include contributing to Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code for ServiceNow’s global private cloud.
The candidate will develop tools in Python, bash, and JavaScript to automate tasks and enhance customer maintenance experience.
The role requires driving enhancements and bug fixes for large-scale automation projects such as patching and provisioning.
The candidate will design and implement procedures for maintenance where automation is not feasible and resolve root causes with internal teams.
Preparing new ServiceNow products and services for production readiness is also a key responsibility, which includes design reviews, feedback to engineering teams, training, and testing.
The candidate will utilize their knowledge of systems administration and networking to prevent and address incidents while improving documentation.
Participation in escalations and Root Cause Analysis of issues in both US Federal and global Commercial infrastructures is expected.
Troubleshooting database backup and restore failures and performing database migrations are part of the role.
The candidate will support a variety of infrastructure services including Machine Learning, Cloudera Big Data clusters, messaging services, and more.
Requirements:
Candidates must be US citizens, US naturalized citizens, or US Permanent Residents due to federal requirements.
A minimum of 6+ years of experience with Linux (RedHat and/or CentOS) is required.
Expert-level skills in performance and availability monitoring, analysis, and configuration management platforms are desirable.
Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Perl, Python, or JavaScript is necessary.
Familiarity with database technologies like MySQL, Oracle, or MariaDB is preferred.
Candidates should have expert-level skills in service troubleshooting in a production environment covering web front-end, systems, databases, and networks.
Familiarity with networking technologies such as routing, switching, and load balancing is required, with F5 and NGINX experience being ideal.
Understanding of the ITIL v3 framework and its application to incidents, problems, and change is necessary.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a collaborative team environment are essential.
