Xero is seeking a Staff ML Engineer to join their AI team, which focuses on building systems that power the next generation of insightful products.
The role involves leading the design of AI research and production infrastructure and services, ensuring scalability while maintaining flexibility for research teams.
The engineer will own the strategy for managing technical debt and costs across the stack.
Responsibilities include solving the right problems with appropriate methods, sharing knowledge with colleagues, and improving data quality and usability across Xero.
The position also involves building Xero's market profile through public-facing content and events.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 6+ years of experience delivering ML and AI products at scale.
A strong inclination towards solving complex problems and understanding technical systems is essential.
Comfort with learning new frameworks related to distributed processing and ML is required.
A willingness to explore unknowns and adapt decisions based on new information is necessary.
Continuous learning and growth should be a core part of the candidate's identity.
Strong coding and system design skills in Python or another relevant language are required.
Proficiency in SQL and an understanding of distributed processing are essential.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical concepts to both technical and business stakeholders are necessary.
Experience in developing standards and mentoring early career ML engineers is preferred.
Familiarity with TensorFlow is a nice-to-have.

Xero offers a salary range of $150,000 - $195,000 per year.
