Description:

  • Cruise is a self-driving service focused on building advanced self-driving vehicles to enhance urban mobility and safety.
  • The Staff ML Software Engineer, Perception role involves driving various robotics aspects of the perception software stack.
  • Responsibilities include streamlining optimization, integration, creating ML training and evaluation frameworks, sensor data preprocessing, and designing for experimentation cycles and production.
  • The position requires cross-functional collaboration to architect and implement technologies for large-scale ML and AV development.
  • The engineer will lead and manage complex technical projects related to ML system training and evaluation.
  • Maintaining high standards in planning, code reviews, and design discussions is essential, along with advocating for best practices in code quality and system architecture.
  • The role also involves developing innovative software solutions for evaluating ML systems and improving R&D productivity within the Perception organization.

Requirements:

  • A BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience is required.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++ for developing and optimizing production-quality ML systems is necessary, along with a strong grounding in computer science fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with ML systems, including model evaluation, performance metrics, and tuning, is essential.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience leading technical teams in cross-functional projects is required, with proven ability to navigate dynamic environments.
  • A passion for self-driving car technology and its societal impact is crucial.
  • Familiarity with SQL is considered a bonus.
