Remote Staff Platform Engineer

Description:

• The Staff Platform Engineer position at Brightwheel involves leading complex cross-team projects to increase engineering velocity, improve system reliability and security, and optimize operational costs.
• The role includes implementing best practices and frameworks to improve coding efficiency and quality across the team.
• Staff Platform Engineers proactively identify and address issues of reliability and performance by rapidly deploying code.
• They provide input for both delivery and discovery, offer new ideas, proposals, and constructive criticism to the team.
• The position requires a focus on quality, scalability, security, and performance to ensure a solid platform that serves customers and enables the team to build a great product.
• Responsibilities also include designing and architecting new software systems or introducing new technologies to drive Brightwheel's growth.
• Sound, data-driven decision-making is essential, analyzing data insights to improve architecture for a great customer experience.
• Staff Platform Engineers promote excellence in engineering process and culture across teams, collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical functions, and mentor and help grow engineering teams.
• They are involved in interviewing and evaluating engineering candidates to help grow the engineering team.

Requirements:

• Must have experience in building cloud infrastructure and services in AWS or equivalent.
• Proficiency in API and application development, ideally in languages like Ruby, Python, or similar.
• Experience in data modeling and optimizing relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL for large datasets.
• Familiarity with integrating services using various integration styles, including synchronous and asynchronous architectures.
• Preferred experience in contributing to and designing backend systems using Ruby on Rails.
• Knowledge of security concepts with infrastructure and web, common database, caching, and web technologies, GitOps tooling, CI/CD pipeline automation, infrastructure-as-code tools, and containerization and orchestration tools.
