Remote Staff Software Backend Engineer

Description:

• The Staff Software Backend Engineer position at Brightwheel involves working on a new learning platform for administrators, teachers, and parents to support student development.
• Responsibilities include collaborating with product and design teams to implement new features, ensuring quality, scalability, security, and performance of software systems, designing new systems, sharing knowledge with the engineering team, and mentoring team members.
• The role requires a high degree of ownership, autonomy, and the ability to execute effectively in a lean, fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in fast-paced early- or mid-stage startups.
• Proficiency in backend systems using Ruby on Rails, Python, Go, or similar technologies.
• Expertise in writing automated tests and using Git.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms, architecting distributed systems, and microservice architectures.
• Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) is preferred.
