Description:

  • Vidyard is seeking a Staff Software Developer to join the dynamic Core Team, which is essential to the leading video platform and user experience.
  • The Staff Developer will design, build, and scale core functionality, including video recording, hosting, and playback.
  • Responsibilities include driving architectural decisions, improving system reliability, and enhancing performance across various applications such as the encoding pipeline, Chrome Extension, Mobile App, Desktop App, and customer-facing features like captions, thumbnails, chapters, and playlists.
  • The role involves collaboration with a cross-functional team of developers, designers, and product managers to address customer challenges and deliver exceptional software solutions.
  • The position is remote and open to candidates located in Canada.
  • The Core Team consists of ten developers, one product manager, and one designer, divided into two streams: Tech Stream and Engage Stream.
  • The Staff Software Developer will contribute to both streams, optimizing Vidyard’s core video platform and driving system design and architecture decisions.
  • Key tasks include solving complex embedded system challenges, leading system design discussions, optimizing the video pipeline, mentoring engineers, and introducing new tools and technologies.
  • The first 30 days will involve understanding Vidyard’s architecture and meeting stakeholders, the first 60 days will focus on contributing to technical discussions and identifying improvements, and the first 90 days will include leading a major technical initiative.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have a solid background in software engineering with 10+ years of experience in building scalable web products.
  • A high tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to take action to discover solutions is essential.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills are required to navigate discussions around risks and tradeoffs.
  • A desire to drive improvements in quality, reliability, and performance standards is necessary.
  • Candidates should possess lean thinking and an experimental, metrics-driven mindset.
  • Eagerness to share knowledge and provide mentorship to other developers across the organization is expected.
  • The ability to break down complex problems and understand necessary tradeoffs for impactful solutions is crucial.
  • Preferred working knowledge or experience includes technologies such as Ruby on Rails, AWS, Node.js, Vue or React, Typescript, AI model integration, GraphQL, Redis, MySQL, and S3.
