The Staff Software Engineer role at Oportun is a remote position based in India that combines technical expertise with strategic thinking.

Responsibilities include leading the end-to-end delivery of complex software applications, creating frameworks to ease the workload of other engineers, and driving technical decision-making.
The engineer will take ownership of critical projects, engage with stakeholders, and provide clear explanations of technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
The role involves mentoring senior team members, advocating for technologies that improve efficiency, conducting code reviews, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 10+ years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree with equivalent education and experience.
A proven track record of delivering sophisticated software solutions in a leadership capacity with high quality is required.
Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, along with mastery over data structures, algorithms, and software design principles, are necessary.
Demonstrated experience in web application development, including Java, Microservices, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, RESTful APIs, and Hibernate is essential.
Candidates should have experience with relational databases like MySQL, MariaDB, and SQL, as well as a solid grasp of version control systems such as Git.
Knowledge of OAuth2 and the ability to quickly learn new systems and create proofs of concept (POCs) is required.
Proven ability to mentor and lead a team of engineers, along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, is necessary.
