Description:
Smartcar is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their engineering team and provide technical leadership and strategic guidance across multiple engineering groups.
The role involves collaborating with product, engineering, and architecture leaders to enhance Smartcar’s core platform, focusing on reliability, scalability, performance, and customer-centric developer productivity.
Responsibilities include setting high-quality coding practices, providing architectural leadership, and guiding the Core API and OEM Adapter Engineering teams.
The engineer will work closely with the Developer Experience team to improve onboarding processes and overall developer experience.
Mentorship and leadership are key aspects of the role, fostering technical excellence and a customer-first mindset among team members.
The position requires driving initiatives to improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of APIs and services.
Staying updated on the latest technologies and advocating for the adoption of tools and techniques that enhance engineering efficiency and customer satisfaction is essential.
This role is remote within the United States.
Requirements:
Candidates must have 15+ years of software engineering experience with a strong background in distributed systems, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
Proven experience as a technical leader, providing architectural guidance and influencing cross-functional teams is required.
Expertise in building and maintaining high-performance, scalable APIs and streaming systems is essential.
A strong understanding of cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and asynchronous communication patterns is necessary.
Hands-on experience with programming languages such as Javascript and Python, along with proficiency in other relevant languages, is required.
Experience with event-based architectures (Kinesis, SQS, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar), streaming platforms, and RESTful APIs is needed.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential, with the ability to work across multiple teams and disciplines.
A proven track record of mentoring engineers and guiding teams through complex technical challenges is required.
Benefits:
The base salary for this position ranges from $180,000 to $225,000, determined by years of experience.
Employees will receive equity as part of their compensation package.
The position offers remote work within the United States.
