Veracross provides SaaS-based School Information Systems (SIS) tailored for independent K-12 schools globally.

The Staff Software Engineer role is a full-time position focused on the Payments team, which is part of the Financial Technology offering.
Responsibilities include developing and maintaining features using Ruby on Rails, SQL, and JavaScript, leading technical architecture discussions, and providing mentorship to team members.
The role involves building new features within the flagship product, Axiom, and integrating Veracross with third-party systems used by private K-12 schools.
The engineering team is remote-friendly, and while proximity to Wakefield, MA is a plus, candidates can apply from anywhere.

Requirements:

Candidates must have experience integrating payment providers such as Stripe, BlueSnap, or Braintree.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Strong technical organization and planning skills are necessary.
A demonstrable understanding of security and privacy requirements for payment systems is essential.
Candidates should be able to perform technical responsibilities remotely in a mostly asynchronous environment.
Flexibility and adaptability are important traits for this role.
A minimum of 8 years of professional programming experience is required.
Proven experience in system architecture, ensuring scalability and performance is necessary.
Experience with Ruby, Rails, or similar languages and technologies is required, with modern JavaScript development experience being a plus.
A passion for writing testable code and experience in unit/integration testing is expected.
Experience with relational databases and source control, especially git, is required.
A service- and team-oriented mindset is essential.
