Description:

Kin is seeking a Staff Software Engineer with a back-end focus to develop products and features that enhance the company's operations.
The role involves working in a Ruby on Rails environment with a Typescript front-end and PostgreSQL database, applying Agile methodologies.
Responsibilities include writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code, leading pair programming sessions, mentoring junior engineers, and driving advanced design tasks.
The engineer will develop technical roadmaps, participate in daily stand-ups and weekly retrospectives, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Insurance Product and Actuarial teams.
The position is remote, with a preference for candidates located in Central or Eastern US time zones.

Requirements:

Candidates must have 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
A minimum of 5+ years of experience coding with Ruby on Rails is required.
Strong understanding of SQL and RDBMS is necessary, along with exposure to NoSQL.
Experience in designing and implementing scalable, API-first systems is essential.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and big data engineering on AWS and/or DataBricks is a plus.
Candidates should be able to articulate the value of technical investments and operate with minimal technical guidance.
Experience mentoring engineers is required, and candidates should be comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.
A fast learner who is ready to apply previous knowledge and continue developing is preferred.
