Description:

As a Staff Software Engineer on the Phishing Protection team at Material Security, you will serve as a technical leader for a critical product engineering team.
The team is focused on applying state-of-the-art techniques, including AI/ML, to enhance phishing detection and automate the triaging of human reports.
You will build a sophisticated and flexible attachment processing pipeline to detect malicious payloads.
Your responsibilities will include developing new capabilities for link crawling and phishing site detection, including fake login portals.
You will partner with Material’s AI/ML experts to integrate improved models into the phishing detection platform and engineer the signals that power it.
You will take ownership of large engineering initiatives that directly contribute to business growth.
You will scale the phishing protection product infrastructure to process more messages, meet tighter latency requirements, and optimize for cost of goods sold (COGS).

Requirements:

Strong software engineering fundamentals, raw coding ability, and problem-solving skills are essential for this position.
Ideal candidates should be proficient in at least one mainstream programming language and have the ability to learn new languages, such as Typescript, easily.
Candidates must be able to quickly identify effective solutions to challenging problems and communicate their decisions to teammates.
Technical maturity is important; candidates should be capable of writing high-quality code with minimal oversight and understand the risks involved in shipping production code.
A strong sense of ownership is required, with candidates expected to care about the impact of their work and find satisfaction in delivering quality results.

Compensation for this position is competitive, with a projected range of $189,550 to $271,700, based on individual knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.
