Remote Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Tech Lead)

Description:

• The Staff Software Engineer will work as a technical leader alongside product and design teams to implement new features and product lines.
• They will provide input for both delivery and discovery, offering new ideas and constructive criticism to the team.
• Responsible for ensuring quality, scalability, security, and performance of software systems.
• Design and architect new software systems or introduce new technologies to support brightwheel’s growth.
• Share knowledge and expertise across the engineering team and mentor team members.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of professional experience, preferably in fast-paced early- or mid-stage startups.
• Proficiency in contributing to and designing backend systems using Ruby on Rails.
• Expertise in writing automated tests (unit/integration/functional) and using Git.
• Experience with a variety of codebase sizes and ages, proficiency with AWS or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with architecting distributed systems for scalability and reliability.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience with microservice or service-oriented architectures, modern webapps like React.js, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
