The Staff Software Engineer role is a full-time position focused on the Finance product team, specifically on the Student Billing and Accounting product.
Responsibilities include owning technical architecture discussions, leading technical decisions, and providing mentorship to team members.
The role involves improving and maintaining Ruby on Rails applications and SQL code, building new features, and integrating with third-party systems.
Candidates should have experience in financial systems and a strong focus on the database layer, with over 60% of their time spent in SQL.
The engineering team is remote-friendly, and while proximity to Wakefield, MA is a plus, candidates from anywhere are encouraged to apply.

Requirements:

Candidates must understand core accounting standards and concepts, including GAAP, General Ledger, and Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable.
Experience with accounting applications such as Quickbooks, Freshbooks, Xero, or Sage is required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Strong technical organization and planning skills are necessary.
Candidates should be able to perform technical responsibilities remotely in a mostly asynchronous environment.
Flexibility and adaptability are important traits for this role.
A minimum of 8 years of professional programming experience is required.
Proven experience in system architecture, ensuring scalability and performance is necessary.
Experience with Ruby, Rails, or similar languages and technologies is required; modern JavaScript development experience is a plus.
Familiarity with relational databases and source control, especially git, is essential.
A service- and team-oriented mindset is expected.
