Description:

  • Twilio is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join their Phone Numbers team, responsible for the systems powering Twilio’s Global Inventory.
  • The role involves designing, building, and deploying distributed systems and microservices architecture, working closely with Product and Design teams.
  • The Staff Engineer will be responsible for building low latency, highly scalable APIs and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Key responsibilities include architecting for growth, building a strong technical foundation, modernizing software, mentoring, effective communication and collaboration, and participating in an on-call rotation.
  • The ideal candidate should have 8+ years of experience in designing scalable distributed systems, 7+ years of Java experience, 5+ years of relational database understanding, practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS, and excellent communication skills.
  • Desired qualifications include prior experience with PHP, knowledge of modern front-end technologies, and experience with security best practices for distributed systems.
  • This remote position is based in India, with approximately 5% anticipated travel.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying large, scalable distributed systems and microservices architectures.
  • 7+ years of Java experience, including advanced concepts like concurrency, threading, and performance optimization.
  • 5+ years of experience with relational databases like MySQL, including query optimization and data modeling principles.
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS, including containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to manage conflict effectively.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and being on call for high scale production systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent).
