Description:

  • Weights & Biases is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the scaling of metrics and storage systems for their AI developer platform.
  • The company aims to provide excellent tools for ML practitioners to build better models, having evolved from an experiment tracking product to a comprehensive platform.
  • The Staff Engineer will be responsible for making critical technical decisions to optimize performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of systems that handle petabytes of data.
  • This role involves setting the technical direction for the team and balancing short-term deliverables with long-term architectural improvements.
  • The engineer will collaborate closely with product management, revenue teams, and other engineering groups to enhance the Models product used by over 2,500 AI teams globally.
  • Responsibilities include designing scalable infrastructure, maintaining existing services, participating in customer support rotations, and mentoring junior engineers.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must have 8+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in data platforms and/or distributed systems.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Go, or Typescript are required.
  • Extensive experience in designing and scaling customer-facing APIs in production environments is essential, ideally with systems like MySQL, Postgres, Clickhouse, Bigtable, Pub/Sub, and Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and major cloud providers like GCP, AWS, or Azure is necessary.
