AeroVect is seeking an experienced Technical Lead for the position of Staff Software Engineer, Motion Planning.
The role involves architecting and leading the development of advanced planning systems for autonomous driving in structured, low-speed environments.
The successful candidate will lead the planning team, own the planning module roadmap, and ensure the delivery of high-quality planning systems.
Responsibilities include driving the development of the mission planner, behavior planner, and motion planner to achieve category-defining vehicle autonomy for the airside.
The position offers the opportunity to develop a market-defining enterprise product that integrates autonomous vehicle technology with a robotics-as-a-service (RaaS) business model.
The role reports to the Head of Autonomy and collaborates closely with the autonomy engineering team.
Key tasks include setting clear goals for the planning team, balancing leadership with hands-on technical work, and maintaining the planning module roadmap.
The candidate will also collaborate cross-functionally to create an integrated autonomous driving system and establish best practices in software development and systems engineering.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field is required.
Extensive experience in developing planning modules for autonomous systems is necessary, along with prior leadership or team management experience.
The candidate must have a proven ability to manage and deliver complex engineering projects.
Strong programming skills in C++ (preferred) or Python, and experience with Linux-based operating systems are essential.
Excellent communication skills, proactiveness, and a strong sense of ownership are required.
Desired qualifications include an MS or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.
Mastery of Modern C++ (14 and beyond) and safety-critical coding practices (e.g., MISRA, ISO 26262) is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in planning for robotic ground vehicles is desired.
An in-depth understanding of DDS frameworks like ROS/ROS2 or other networking middleware is beneficial.
Experience in startup environments, demonstrating adaptability to rapidly changing priorities, is a plus.
