Description:
This is a full-time remote position, and candidates from the US or Canada are being sought.
The Asserts.ai team, part of Grafana Labs, is growing within the Observability group after an acquisition.
The backend team is responsible for building and operating low-latency microservices using Java and databases like Graph DB.
The services provide automated Root Cause Insights by querying Grafana Cloud Metrics, Traces, and Logs databases and integrating with Grafana platform components.
The Asserts services are multi-tenant, highly available, and process/store data in Graph and Time Series DB.
The role involves building and leading backend initiatives for Asserts as the company scales to thousands of self-service customers.
Responsibilities include driving technical and business strategy, influencing the product roadmap, and system design.
The engineer will work with the team to deliver new features, own system reliability, and participate in on-call rotations.
Mentoring and supporting team members is also a key aspect of the role.
The engineer will strive to become a subject matter expert in observability products and systems.
Requirements:
Candidates must be motivated self-starters with a bias towards action.
A customer-focused mindset is essential, with a passion for creating intuitive products.
Experience in delivering projects from requirements gathering to product shipping is required.
Candidates should have experience in building and deploying SaaS software on cloud providers like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Strong experience in Java programming and deploying Java-based microservices is necessary.
Experience with Kubernetes is required.
Candidates must have operated production services and participated in on-call rotations.
Active mentoring of team members and sharing knowledge through blog posts or tech talks is expected.
A curiosity for learning new programming languages and frameworks is important.

In Canada, the base compensation range for this role is CAD 146,000 - CAD 183,011, with actual compensation varying based on level, experience, and skillset.
