Description:

  • The Staff Software Engineer will be part of the Orders Reporting Platform team at Square, focusing on helping merchants of all sizes gain insights from their core sales data.
  • The team is responsible for building a multi-layered platform to enhance the user-facing reporting experience at Square.
  • The role involves leading the design and implementation of new platform features, mentoring and leading engineers, and collaborating with partner teams across the company.
  • The Staff Engineer will work with Product and stakeholders to identify platform requirements, provide high-quality contributions across multiple code bases, and drive impact through technical leadership and mentorship.
  • The position requires bridging real-time transactional systems with batch/analytical systems and influencing the code base towards technical and architectural end states for the project.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of software development experience is required for this role.
  • Familiarity with architecting/implementing Java-/Kotlin-based backend services is essential.
  • Strong product intuition and interest, along with platform-building experience, are necessary qualifications.
  • Tactical and strategic leadership experience on medium/large-scale software projects is a must.
  • Strong written communication skills for internal and external stakeholders are required.
  • Interest and experience in mentoring other engineers is a key requirement.
