Discord is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Safety Processing team, which is essential for ensuring trust and safety on the platform.
The role involves processing signals from user reports and automated systems to identify and remove harmful or illegal content.
Responsibilities include leading backend projects, providing architectural guidance, and building scalable systems to protect users.
The engineer will design and build backend systems primarily using Python for processing safety-related signals.
The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop tools for content moderation and migrating third-party tools to native systems.
The engineer will need to anticipate safety challenges and build solutions with an adversarial mindset.
Leadership in driving workstreams and mobilizing the team to achieve impactful outcomes is crucial.
The role also involves implementing and enhancing ML/AI models to improve content moderation efficiency.

Requirements:

Extensive experience in developing and maintaining backend systems using Python is required.
Strong system design and architecture skills are necessary to build scalable and reliable systems for content moderation.
The candidate must have the ability to define workstreams, lead projects, and guide other engineers through implementation.
Experience in a domain requiring an adversarial mindset, such as trust, safety, security, or privacy, is essential.
Bonus points for experience with ML/AI models in content moderation, familiarity with Typescript/Javascript/React, and previous work at companies focused on safety, security, or trust & safety.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $223,000 to $245,500, plus equity and benefits.
Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
