Description:
The Shopping Marketplaces team at NerdWallet focuses on creating data-driven shopping experiences in the Credit Cards and Wealth verticals.
The mission is to help users make smarter financial decisions through high-traffic shopping experiences.
The Staff Software Engineer will be a technical leader and hands-on builder, driving technical excellence and platform scalability.
This full-stack role emphasizes front-end performance, UI/UX, accessibility, and web performance.
Responsibilities include enhancing Core Web Vitals, technical SEO, and observability for optimized shopping experiences.
The engineer will work on back-end APIs and integrate with Machine Learning systems for personalization and data-driven decision-making.
Collaboration with engineering leadership is essential to influence the engineering roadmap and contribute to best practices.
The role involves writing production-quality code, mentoring engineers, and ensuring high-quality execution and fast iteration.
Requirements:
A minimum of 8+ years in software engineering with a strong background in full stack development is required.
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is necessary.
Expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and the web platform is required, along with proficiency in modern languages such as Rust, Go, or Python.
Candidates must be experts in modern front-end frameworks like Next.js, React.js, Material UI, and Tailwind.
Deep knowledge of Web Performance, Core Web Vitals, and Technical SEO is essential.
A keen eye for design, usability, and user experience, along with an understanding of accessibility best practices, is required.
Experience in Observability and managing a production website or application at scale is necessary.
Familiarity with database systems, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, IAC, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is required.
Deep domain knowledge in finance or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of security best practices, particularly in financial services, is essential.
