Description:

  • The Shopping Marketplaces team at NerdWallet Canada is focused on creating data-driven shopping experiences in the Credit Cards and Wealth verticals.
  • The team aims to enhance SEO, conversion, and engagement through technology, experimentation, and product excellence.
  • The Staff Software Engineer role is a full-stack position with a front-end focus, requiring a strong eye for design, UI/UX, accessibility, and web performance.
  • Responsibilities include leading initiatives to improve Core Web Vitals, technical SEO, and observability for shopping experiences.
  • The role involves working on back-end APIs and integrating with Machine Learning systems for personalization and data-driven decision-making.
  • The engineer will collaborate with engineering leadership to influence the engineering roadmap and contribute to best practices.
  • The position requires hands-on coding, mentoring engineers, and driving technical excellence across the team.
  • The engineer will conduct code reviews, ensure high standards of technical excellence, and promote continuous improvement within the engineering team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8+ years in software engineering with a strong background in full stack development is required.
  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is necessary.
  • Expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and the web platform is required, along with proficiency in modern languages such as Rust, Go, or Python.
  • Candidates must be experts in modern front-end frameworks like Next.js, React.js, Material UI, and Tailwind.
  • Deep knowledge of Web Performance, Core Web Vitals, and Technical SEO is essential.
  • A keen eye for design, usability, and user experience, along with an understanding of accessibility best practices, is required.
  • Experience in observability and managing a production website or application at scale is necessary.
  • Familiarity with database systems, microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, IAC, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is required.
  • Deep domain knowledge in finance or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, particularly in financial services, is essential.
