Description:
The Systems Architect will play a crucial role in advancing the CDC Foundation's mission by designing and overseeing the implementation of complex technical solutions that support mission-critical systems in a public health organization.
This role is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), which aims to help public health agencies by providing technology and data experts to accelerate information system improvements.
The Systems Architect will work within the South Carolina Department of Public Health Office of Information Technology, providing expertise in technology architecture focused on technical and application architecture strategies, technology road mapping, and methodologies.
Responsibilities include managing the planning, design, delivery, and implementation of user-centric solutions for large-scale, complex products to meet critical business requirements.
The position involves creating system architecture diagrams, documentation, and guidelines, evaluating existing systems for improvement, and defining technical standards for consistency and interoperability.
The Systems Architect will also conduct feasibility studies, provide technical leadership during implementation, ensure security and compliance, and collaborate with various teams to design robust systems.
The focus for this project will be on two assessments and two improvement plans: one for the data warehouse and another to eliminate paper reporting and manual data entry.
The mission includes evaluating the existing pipeline and developing a plan for future data import, analysis, integration, and automation to advance broader Data Modernization Initiatives.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, management information science, networking-telecommunications, or a related field is required.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience is required.
Experience and expertise in system architecture with deep technical knowledge of application design, implementation, and deployment are necessary.
Hands-on experience designing modern architectural patterns for complex and legacy IT solutions is required.
Knowledge of technical security and product management best practices is essential.
Familiarity with current industry standards for architecting, automating, and integrating processes is required.
Hands-on knowledge of programming languages such as C#, Python, Java, and JavaScript is necessary.
An expert-level understanding of modern architectural standards for cloud-based solutions is required.
Experience in designing and writing automated test scripts for various testing types is necessary.
Proven experience applying software engineering best practices to product delivery is required.
The ability to develop architectural solutions for complex, multi-year plans is essential.
Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Flexibility to adapt to evolving project requirements and outstanding interpersonal skills are necessary.
Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams is required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is necessary.
Benefits:
The salary range for this position is $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits, with individual salary offers based on experience and qualifications.
This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S.-based candidates.
The role is grant-funded and is a limited-term opportunity, ending on June 30, 2025.
