Remote [Wattpad] Senior Platform Engineer, Data

Description:

• Wattpad is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer, Data to join their Data Engineering team.
• The role involves designing, building, maintaining, and monitoring a large-scale distributed system that serves millions of users daily.
• Responsibilities include building new and updating existing microservices on AWS using Go and Python.
• The engineer will maintain and scale an event platform powered by Kafka, which ingests 200K messages per second.
• The position requires improving the reliability and performance of core components and existing systems.
• The engineer will also configure and maintain the infrastructure that supports these systems and write unit and service tests for all code.
• Researching new technologies to address future scaling issues is also part of the job.
• Candidates can work remotely in Canada but must align with core EST hours (9am to 5pm EST).

Requirements:

• Candidates should have a growth mindset and a passion for learning.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in a software development role is required.
• Proficiency in Golang and/or Python is essential.
• Experience in building and maintaining complex back-end systems that operate 24/7 at high scale is necessary.
• Interest or experience in information retrieval systems, such as Elasticsearch and time-series databases, is preferred.
• Familiarity with big data technologies like Airflow, EMR, Dataproc, AWS DMS, AWS Glue, Spark, Redshift, Flink, and Kafka is valued.
• Candidates should write clean, readable code that clearly communicates its intent and methods.
• Understanding of database fundamentals and experience working on data platforms is required.
• Interest in DevOps or infrastructure technologies, such as Kubernetes, is appreciated.
• Experience in planning and leading technical initiatives or projects of various scopes and sizes is a plus.
• Mentoring experience with other developers is also valued.
