Description:
Kaeppel Consulting is seeking an experienced Web Developer with bibliographic system expertise to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive digital library system for a city library in Texas.
The website will serve as an online catalog, archival repository, and research hub, ensuring seamless access to books, historical records, and digital collections.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in library systems such as Koha, Greenstone, or Biblio, metadata management, and UI/UX best practices to create an intuitive user experience for the public, researchers, and library staff.
Key responsibilities include developing and designing a web-based bibliographic system for cataloging library and archival materials, integrating a searchable database for books, documents, and digital collections, and implementing MARC record integration for bibliographic data management.
The developer will also be responsible for developing user authentication systems with different access levels, ensuring ADA & WCAG compliance for an inclusive digital experience, optimizing the website for speed, security, and mobile responsiveness, and setting up cloud hosting or on-premise server solutions as required.
Ongoing maintenance and technical support post-launch will also be part of the role.
Requirements:
Candidates must have front-end development skills in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (React, Vue, or Angular).
Back-end development experience in Python (Django/Flask), PHP (Laravel), or Node.js is required.
Proficiency in database management using MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB is necessary.
Experience with bibliographic systems such as Koha, Greenstone, Biblio, or custom-built solutions is essential.
Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like Omeka or WordPress is preferred but not required.
Knowledge of metadata standards including MARC, Dublin Core, and MODS is required.
Candidates should have experience with API integration for MARC records, DOI systems, or Open Library APIs.
An understanding of SEO and accessibility standards is necessary.
Experience with digital asset management systems (DAMS) is also required.
